Crimewatch Scotland is a Police and local council supported initiative working to increase safety, security and communication within communities across Scotland.
We provide a low-cost national safety and communications service connecting retailers, licensed premises and other businesses with each other, community CCTV Service Centres and the Police, helping people communicate quickly and work together when it matters most.
Our services are built around three key areas: supporting retailers and businesses in the prevention and response to retail crime; helping bars, pubs, nightclubs, restaurants and other licensed premises contribute to a safer night-time economy; and providing modern Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PTToC) communications through TRIBE.
Connected Through TRIBE
TRIBE is the communications technology that helps power the Crimewatch Scotland network, providing modern PTToC two-way radio communications using cellular and Wi-Fi networks rather than being restricted by the geographical limitations of conventional two-way radio systems.
This allows authorised users across towns, cities and wider geographical areas to remain connected, while supporting the rapid sharing of information between businesses, Crimewatch Scotland affiliated dispatchers and other authorised network users.
More Than Just Radio Communications
Our affiliated dispatchers monitor radio users in towns and cities throughout Scotland and, when necessary, assist and coordinate communications between them.
The multi-site nature of the Crimewatch Scotland network means that information relating to potential threats or developing incidents in one location can, where appropriate, be quickly shared with users in surrounding areas.
The way our dispatchers interact with radio users also encourages good radio discipline and helps members maintain professional operational standards — important when responding to an incident, whether criminal, safety-related or otherwise.

Whether protecting a retail store during the day or helping licensed premises contribute towards a safer night-time economy, Crimewatch Scotland helps members know that they are not working in isolation.
Members can be made aware of relevant incidents or potential threats in their area and, when assistance is required, can quickly communicate with a wider support network of authorised users, including other participating businesses, community CCTV Service Centres and local Police where available.
This connected approach enables members to communicate before, during and after an incident, helping everyone involved to remain better informed, better coordinated and better prepared.

The World has Changed!
Traditional two-way radio networks were the established form of communication for many decades. Now, with the stability and reliability of modern mobile networks, new ways of communicating have been developed that remove the previous restrictions of range and excessive infrastructure cost.
What is PTToC?
Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PTToC) provides two-way radio services over 3G, and LTE technology, creating a worldwide radio network that utilizes the cellular infrastructure of Mobile Network Operators. This enables radio networks with very wide coverage areas. Radio users untethered by the range of repeaters and base stations used in traditional radio networks.
How PTToC Works
PTToC devices connect to the cellular infrastructure networks of Mobile Network Operators, using a SIM card identical to those installed in cell phones. PTToC network services are hosted in the Cloud. The Cloud services are located on privately hosted servers owned and operated by the PTToC platform. Gateway routers provide connectivity between the Mobile Network Operator networks and the PTToC servers.
The Advantages
The advantage is a highly reliable network that requires no network infrastructure investment and maintenance. An app on the radio (typically an Android operating system) provides simple and convenient access to PTToC services.
PTToC Radios also support WLAN (WIFI ) connectivity. The WLAN capability enables calls inside buildings with WLAN network coverage that fills gaps where an LTE network has limited connectivity. PTToC radios automatically and seamlessly switch to an LTE network when a caller moves outside WLAN network range.
Why should I consider using PTToC from Crimewatch Scotland?
No Infrastructure Required
The radio user no longer needs to purchase, operate and maintain any infrastructure, as this is all done by the Mobile Network Operators. This gets rid of the day-to-day responsibilities of owning and maintaining the infrastructure, reduces operating costs and dispenses with the need for frequency licenses for Private Mobile Radio (PMR) systems.
Rapid Deployments
Since the radio network infrastructure already exists, PTToC systems can be deployed very quickly. PTToC radios can work out-of-the-box with SIM cards pre-installed, and system configuration such as call groups, emergency alarms, and geo-fencing can be easily done through a web-based dispatch application.
Global Coverage
With conventional radios, communicating over a long distance is very difficult. You tend to need equipment like repeaters to expand your radio coverage/network. However, with PTToC you can now communicate nationally and internationally.
Exceptional Security and Privacy
The Crimewatch PTToC system is a private closed network using a high level of encryption on a bare-metal server securing private channels against the risk of unauthorised access and eavesdropping on your sensitive private data and communications.
Range of Features
Good PTToC systems should have a variety of useful features like GPS, an emergency button, Man down and Lone worker function (which the Crimewatch PTToC system has). These features are ideal for environments where employees are working independently and need to be in contact constantly by voice or in the case of an emergency.

Smartphones and dedicated PTToC devices typically have longer battery life compared to two-way radios, ensuring continuous communication throughout extended shifts without the need for frequent charging.
