The British Retail Consortium has reported that the financial impact of retail crime on UK retailers runs into billions of pounds each year, highlighting the scale of the challenge facing the retail sector.
Organised crime groups, professional offenders and habitual shoplifters can operate across multiple stores, shopping areas and geographical locations. Some offenders may also be involved in wider criminal activity, making the rapid sharing of relevant information particularly important.
Working Together to Protect Retailers
Crimewatch Scotland helps retailers work together rather than deal with incidents in isolation.
Through our nationwide communications and information-sharing network, participating retailers can communicate with other authorised users and, where available, community CCTV Service Centres and local Police.
This allows relevant information about suspicious activity, known incidents or developing situations to be shared quickly, helping businesses become better informed and better prepared.
Connected Through TRIBE
Crimewatch Scotland uses TRIBE, our modern Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PTToC) communications technology, to provide fast and reliable two-way radio communication across local and wider geographical areas.
Unlike conventional radio systems that can be restricted by range, TRIBE uses cellular and Wi-Fi connectivity, helping Crimewatch Scotland users remain connected wherever authorised network coverage is available.
Our affiliated dispatchers can also monitor and assist radio users, helping maintain good communication standards and supporting coordinated responses when required.

An Increased Feeling Of Security
With a CRIMEWATCH Radio to hand, people feel reassured that they are not working in isolation and are aware of potential threats in the vicinity, and if there is an incident they can link-up quickly with a wider support network of other users particularly community CCTV Service Centres and local Police, with instant communications before, during and after an incident.
A Community Partnership Benefitting All
The program is run in close partnership with local councils, local Police and CCTV service centres for people in their local area to increase safety, security and instil a sense of quality of life for everyone.
We achieve this by promoting closer community ties, and by sharing ideas and disseminating information through community programs that encourage participation in crime prevention and the building of safe and confident communities. But the key element is its relationship with local law enforcement.
